【LiMe NEWS】The 19th Public Lecture Held

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the Institute for Life and Medical Sciences (LiMe), Kyoto University, held its 19th Public Lecture titled “The Feeling Self, the Thinking Self, the Changing Self: The Current State of Neuroscience Research.” The event welcomed a large audience from both within and outside the university and provided an opportunity to share the latest research findings from LiMe.

The lecture was held at the Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall with the aim of introducing the latest research conducted at LiMe.

The event began with opening remarks from Director Hiroshi Kawamoto, followed by two lectures by LiMe faculty members.

Professor Keiko Nonomura (Laboratory of Mechanosensory Physiology) delivered a lecture titled “How the Body Senses Mechanical Forces.”

She explained recent findings on PIEZO, a protein that governs the sense of touch, and its involvement in various physiological functions and disorders such as respiration and urinary sensation.

Professor Itaru Imayoshi (Laboratory of Deconstruction of Stem Cell) presented a lecture titled “The Blueprint of the Brain and Its Dynamic Changes.”

He discussed the mechanisms of the nervous system and changes in neural circuits, introducing cutting-edge research on how brain development and plasticity are linked to individual personality and neurological disorders.

During the Q&A session, numerous questions from the audience sparked an engaging and lively discussion.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who attended this public lecture. LiMe will continue to share our latest research through various events and outreach activities, and we hope to welcome you again in the future.
