The Institute for Life and Medical Sciences (LiMe), Kyoto University, hosted its 18th Open Seminar, “Next-generation Technology from Life Science,” on July 20th, 2024. The event drew a diverse audience from within and outside the university, providing a unique opportunity to delve into the latest research results from LiMe.

This seminar at the Clock Tower Centennial Hall introduced the latest research at the Institute for Life and Medical Sciences (LiMe). Professor Hiroshi Kawamoto, the director of LiMe, welcomed the audience, followed by lectures from two institute professors.

In the lecture “Manipulating Cells with Electric Field” by Professor Hirofumi Shintaku (Lab. of Nano Bioengineering), he explained new biotechnologies at his laboratory and discussed doctoral programs from a global perspective. In the lecture “Uncovering Life and Creating Future Medicine through Viral Research” by Professor Keizo Tomonaga (Lab. of RNA Viruses), he explained the diversity of viruses and the latest efforts to apply their properties to medical care. The Q&A session was lively, with many participants contributing to the discussion.
