演題: Structural basis of the SPFH protein complexes with cage assembly

講演要旨

The SPFH (stomatin, prohibitin, flotillin, and HflK/C) protein family is found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and encompasses the evolutionarily conserved SPFH domain while also demonstrating remarkable diversity. These proteins are predominantly localized in lipid rafts and have been implicated in various biological processes, including membrane protein biogenesis. Membrane protein biogenesis is very complicated, cells have to employ delicate systems to control the quality of these proteins. Two macromolecular machines ribosome and translocon take a major role in membrane protein biogenesis via a process called co-translational translocation. As a key player in translocon, the membrane AAA protease FtsH, which could be in association with HflK/C proteins, plays crucial role in quality control for both cytosolic and membrane proteins. In this seminar, I will be presenting our recent progress and findings with regards to structural and molecular basis of the SPFH family complexes, with an emphasis on the most intact FtsH-HflKC holoenzyme.
