演題：	Structural virology studies by using cryo EM facility of Hokkaido University with JX-Vir consortium

講演要旨

The Center for Research and Education on Drug Discovery, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hokkaido University (hereafter referred to as ‘The center’) has established an integrated drug discovery and development system combined with a cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) facility. Just after the COVID-19 outbreak, we collaborated with the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) to contribute to the identification of existing drug candidates. Next, we have continued to collaborate with Kyoto University for spike production and have also conducted structural analysis of neutralizing antibodies with NIID (NT and NIV series), the University of Toyama (UT28K series), and a wide range of institutes. Furthermore, we determined the cryo-EM structures of the BA2.75 and XBB spike proteins in collaboration with G2P-Japan as a member of the Japanese consortium on Structural Virology (JX-Vir). Currently, we are investigating cry-electron tomography of active, native SARS-CoV-2 using a cryo-EM facility setup in the BSL3 area, which is almost unique in the world. Based on these results, I discuss the prospects of cryo-EM facilities for future pandemics.
